International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Sheffield, Sunday 17 May 2015

Nearly 200 people gathered at Sheffield Peace Gardens on Sunday 17 May 2015 to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

IDAHOT / IDAHOBIT 2015 - Sunday 17 May in Sheffield

This Sunday (May 17^th) sees Sheffield once again make some noise to mark IDAHOT - International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

(You may also see reference to IDAHOBIT - International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.)

LGBT Sheffield are proud to be involved again this year. Information from the organising group (via Facebook):

"Now in its 10th year, May the 17th sees the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) and commemorates the date in 1990 on which the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder.

To mark the day, a public event will be taking place in the Sheffield Peace Gardens at 12 noon on Sunday 17th May, where a one-minute ‘noise' will join our voices with other events across the world to send a clear message that homophobia and transphobia have no place in our society. We hope you, your friends and families can join us in making as much noise as possible!

To continue the celebration of sexual and gender diversities in our city, and directly after the event in the Peace Gardens, Museums Sheffield will be holding a range of free exhibitions, stalls and presentation activities between 1pm-4pm at the Millennium Gallery.

E.D.E.N Action! Panel Debate: “Do We Need A Gay Scene?” - Thursday 5 March 2014

E.D.E.N Film Productions – the team behind the brilliant film, ‘Families Like Ours’ created and released back in 2014 – facilitated an open debate as part of a new project (E.D.E.N Action!), with the main discussion at its core: do we need a gay scene?

The subjects up for discussion were a little broader than the title suggests, with a focus on more than just the typical perception of what a ‘scene’ is, such as LGBT spaces, inclusive non-LGBT spaces, community services and provisions and so on.

Friends of Edward Carpenter Voice & Influence event - #LGBTHM15

The weekend of 20-22 February saw a whole program of celebratory LGBT History Month activities, courtesy of the Friends of Edward Carpenter.

Friday evening saw a launch event, with opening remarks and a charity auction, whilst Saturday and Sunday saw a variety of incredible performances, speeches, music and screenings.
